Sigma Chapter of Omega Delta Phi at Southern Methodist University hosts "Never Send a Knight Without Armor" Valentine's Day 2/14/2013 Safe Sex informational
The Southern Methodist University Sigma chapter of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc is hosting a table to promote safe sex and proper condom use on Valentine's Day Thursday, February 14 from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm at the West Bridge area on the SMU campus. The chapter states that the informational is a chance for their chapter to support a platform that coincides with their fraternal values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership.
Per Kalen Lewis, vice president of the chapter, "The purpose of this event is to keep people safe and informed on Valentine's Day. In a sex positive environment, it's important to also remember that ("sex") it's not necessarily a risk-free venture."
Kalen further informs on a Facebook response, "Besides, if there is free protection, I think more people would stay equipped and better protected."
Chapter President Gustavo Castillo presses on Kalen's point in reply, "Our group worked on the event partnership with the SMU Women's Center and Health Education department. One of our biggest motivations is to provide a means to stay safe on a night some people feel its okay to take more risks. Giving students literature and contraception reminds them that safety should still be a couple's first concern. Valentines is that time of the year where couples tend to be more intimate and newer couples are maybe planning for a big night so our chapter wants to provide information and contraceptives for free because it can be intimidating to buy them."
